Meet Laura – Rising Yogis’ Founder

I taught in secondary schools for over a decade, with experience across pastoral care, academic teaching and leadership. Alongside this, I spent four years offering yoga and mindfulness sessions in schools, witnessing the real difference they could make in young people’s lives.

I believe yoga is far more than a wellbeing activity. It is a joyful, calm, creative and engaging physical practice that gives young people opportunities to move, challenge themselves, build strength and flexibility, whilst also learning to slow down, find stillness, confidence and determination from within.

Through movement, breathwork and mindful awareness, students develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation and focus, supporting their overall wellbeing both in and beyond the classroom.

Before founding Rising Yogis, I came to see that wellbeing isn’t an ‘extra’ in education, it is the foundation.

Now, as a mum of two and a teacher at heart, I’ve created Rising Yogis to help young people experience the physical, emotional and social benefits of yoga in ways that feel accessible, enjoyable and relevant to their lives.

What I bring to Rising Yogis is a unique blend of educational experience and specialist yoga training. Having worked with young people for over a decade, I understand the opportunities and challenges they face, and I believe yoga offers a powerful way for students to build strength, flexibility, confidence, self-awareness and resilience, while supporting their overall wellbeing.

Research in neuroscience increasingly highlights the benefits of combining movement, breath awareness and relaxation to support emotional regulation, focus and nervous system regulation, making yoga a valuable tool for young people in today’s world.

I adapt each class to the students in front of me and the energy of the group on the day. Drawing from a range of approaches, including Hatha, Vinyasa and restorative yoga, sessions may also incorporate breathwork, guided meditation, Yoga Nidra and affirmations.

I’m passionate about supporting sensitive and neurodiverse young people, creating spaces where every student feels safe, seen and supported.

Because yoga isn’t about touching your toes, it’s about coming home to yourself, and there’s space here for everyone.
